Create the 3d model in seconds !
Insert 3d model from Tekla, Bocad, Dxf or IFC
There are several methods to create your 3d model in ConSteel:
|
Graphical user interface
The wide easy-to-use CAD functionality as well as the several convenient model manipulation tools allow the user to concentrate on the real importance of computer modeling. The user model, built by the engineer using whole structural members, is completely separated from the calculation model, which is an automatically generated and sophisticated finite element model, used by the structural analysis and design.

Rich libraries with a variety of cross-section
Steel
Standard steel cross sections
ConSteel library of standard sections includes a variety of European profiles, American, British, Chinese, Continental, Russian and more. The profiles can be easily inserted into any model and taken into account during the analysis and design. There are several types of standard cross sections like I, H, T, U, L, CF, Ro, SHS, RHS and LA.
|
Cold-formed steel profiles
Macros for cold-formed Sigma, C, Z and Omega sections have been completely reworked to be compatible with the requirements of design according to EN 1993-1-3. Additionally, a new macro for the Zeta section has been added. All macros have been extended with further customization options like the possibility to add an edge or intermediate stiffeners of different kinds, as well as choose new predefined materials for coated sections. There are also SHS and Circular parametrical profiles.
|
Section drawing Cold-formed/Thin-walled steel profiles
Create custom shaped sections (cold-formed and general thin-walled open sections) through easy and straightforward graphical creation steps, while the complex operations of building the EPS model is handled automatically in the background. This function is available from the section administrator. You can shape any profile you want.
|
Compound steel profiles
Create compound steel profiles by selecting 2 or more standard types. There are more than 15 different types of combinations and you can also create Battened sections by typing the geometry of every part.
The macro of battened sections can handle I, H or U section. The parameters of the battening plates can be set manually and also be placed either symmetrically or asymmetrically. |
Tapered steel members
Tapered members are frequently used in the economic design of steel-framed structures, therefore their fast and simple modelling is of high importance. Hot rolled and other shapes of Macro section can’t be tapered. In case of selecting a tapered member not only the member but the tapering will be selected automatically and can be modified in the parameter table as a separate object.
|
Haunched steel members
The created members can be strengthened, if necessary, by using the HAUNCH function of ConSteel. The haunch can only be used for members with I type (IPE, HEA, welded I) cross-sections. Its shape is considered as half of a welded or hot-rolled I cross-section (having one flange) with decreasing web height. The final cross-section is designed taking into account the haunch which has different height along the beam.
|
Steel members with holes
By using a welded member, you can select the tool "convert members to plate" which allows you to insert holes to a steel or concrete surface (plate). The calculation of the model will be generated again, taking into account the converted member as a surface member with more parts (plates) connected. You can draw custom holes to the web or plates of a member.

Composite
Composite steel cross-sections (beams)
ConSteel is capable of singles as well as continuous span composite beam designs, under EN 1994-1-1:2010 (Eurocode 4).
A partial and full shear connection can be also designed. Main features:
|
Composite steel cross-sections (Columns)
All the commonly used composite cross-section types can be designed in ConSteel according to Eurocode 4:
|
Buckling restrained brace
BRB System (Powercat)
Star Seismic's Buckling Restrained Braces (powercat) are included in the library of ConSteel. These buckling restrained braces are an ideal option for construction retrofits and building projects that are hampered by heavy time constraints. You can define the geometry of these elements and insert them into the ConSteel model.
|
Shear field elements
Trapezoid sheetings
The stiffening effect of trapezoid sheeting can be considered in buckling analysis. It is important to note, that the trapezoidal decking has to be fixed in an appropriate way to the understructure (all 4 sides on the trapezoidal decking) to be able to calculate proper results. To the determination of shear stiffnesses, different German trapezoidal sheet manufacturers developed their own calculation methodologies for their products. Each method can only be used for the product for which it was developed. The following methods are implemented in the software: Hoesch/ Fischer/ Arcelor/ EuroCode.
